Chapter 3 - Jennie

My heart flutters like the delicate wings of a butterfly as I walk side by side with the mysterious man who saved me.

I have no idea where we're going, but he's assured me he knows the perfect place to get a cup of coffee in the middle of the night. I should be terrified, yet I can't help but trust him and feel safe in his presence.

The image of him standing beneath the lamplight has yet to leave my mind - a cigarette between his fingers, his chiseled jawline and veiny hands illuminated by the soft glow of the streetlight.

The memory sends a shiver down my spine, and I imagine running my fingers along his strong arms, tracing the intricate tattoos that adorn his skin. I wonder what it would feel like to press my lips against his, to lose myself in his embrace. My cheeks flush with heat, and I'm grateful for the night that hides my embarrassment.

He must sense my wandering thoughts because he suddenly speaks, taking me out of my fantasy.

"My name is Mike," he says, his voice grave and echoing throughout the quiet night. He keeps his distance, but the simple introduction has my heart racing even faster.

The magnetic pull I feel toward him is almost unbearable, my body shivering with fear and desire. I know I shouldn't get any closer, that he's dangerous and doesn't care about me, but I can’t control myself.

A million questions race through my mind: Is he not interested in girls? Does he have a girlfriend? Or maybe he's just not into curvy girls like me?

Desperate to know more about him, I ask, "Where do you work?"

He answers with a nonchalant shrug, telling me he works at the mechanic shop. I can't help but laugh, and he gives me a questioning look, his icy stare making my knees weak.

"It's just that I've never seen you in Willow Creek before," I explain, trying to regain my composure. "I've never set foot in the mechanic shop, and I don't even drive, so it makes sense."

He nods, seemingly trying to stop the one-sided conversation, but I can't help myself. I need to know more.

"So, where are you from?" I ask, my curiosity getting the better of me. "Why did you move to Willow Creek?"

He hesitates for a moment before answering, his voice low and guarded.

"I'm from far away," he admits. "Willow Creek seemed like a nice, quiet town. I like peace."

His answer is vague, and I can tell he's holding back, but I don't push any further.

As we continue walking, the streets grow darker and more deserted, the buildings around us slowly transforming into a maze of shadowy alleyways.

Eventually, we arrive at an alley, and Mike gestures for me to enter. My heart leaps into my throat, and I feel a knot forming in my stomach.

As I stand on the precipice of the unknown, my body trembling with fear, I can't help but question my decision to follow him.

What am I doing? I barely know this man, yet here I am, about to walk into a dark, unfamiliar place with him.
